Second Year Progress of Stanford Clinical Center Grant

Sponsored by The Athena Institute Fund for Behavioral Immunology in Women’s Wellness

With support from Athena Institute’s fund —  Rethinking Clinical Research: Methodology and Ethics by Karen B. Schmaling, and Robert M. Kaplan was published in March 2025 by Cambridge University Press.  Similar to Blind Spots, When Medicine Gets It Wrong, and What It Means for Our Health written by current FDA director Dr. Marty Makary, who revealed what had gone wrong in American health, Rethinking Clinical Research also exposes profound errors in health care practice. It then adds a number of solutions.

Rethinking Clinical Research:

The authors acknowledged their appreciation for Athena Institute…

“ We are also very grateful to Dr. Winnifred Cutler and the Athena Institute for Women’s Wellness, who provided the gift to Stanford University that supported much of the work reported in the book. Dr. Cutler has provoked us to think critically and to spread those lessons to others…”

In addition to his new book, Dr. Kaplan allocated Athena grant funding to the Stanford Longevity Center which supported the Healthy Aging Conference 2025. which hosted a full agenda with panel discussions and keynote presentations from experts in their fields such as Deepak Chopra.

The conference explored the latest insights on longevity — nutrition, sleep, stress, cognitive health, strength training, and how to put the findings into your own life’s practice.
Session recordings are available here: : Healthy Aging 2025 Videos, longevity-project.com.

It seems timely to discover what women can do to build their resistance through their own self efficacy. So as Dr. Kaplan’s important behavioral immunology work continues, do revisit Athena Institute’s website for extensive updates on how you can build a stronger immune system with healthy habits and behavior.
